I started this on AOM but I'm bringing it here too... I want to know how many octaves Aaliyah can sing in. I think she has a 3/4 range when compared to other singers (Mariah has either a 5 or 7 octave range, Christina & Jessica have a 4 octave range).
When I listen to "I Care 4 U" it sounds like she's covering at least 3 octaves (if not 4) in that song and on that songs and others like "TOIGMHT" she belt out her highest high notes. Anyway, post your thoughts and if we've got any experienced singers here that explain what all this octave stuff means that would help too

Not sure what her range was...For me I never listened to her for her range, but for the tone and the delivery of the songs. She has a nice range and range is important in singing obviously, but I don't think to me that Aaliyah was known for her range, but the beautiful tone in her voice. It had a angelic soft mysterious sound, that is pretty hypnotic and soothes you, you know?

I don't know what range Aaliyah was; all I know is that I loved her music and her voice was the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.  |
