Countries are meeting in Italy today to discuss whether the ban should be lifted. Countries like the USA and UK are voting for it to stay. Countries like Norway and Japan want it lifted. They say even if it doesnt get lifted they will hunt the animals anyway.
Why can't they leave the animals alone? it was banned for a reason so keep it banned!

I'm from Norway, and I can guarantee you that Norwegians will keep on killing animals no matter what the international community says. Remember the controversy over the Grey Wolf a few years ago? The Norwegian government killed the wolves because they were attacking livestock like sheep, even though the Grey Wolf is a protected species under an international agreement that Norway signed with Sweden. The situation with the livestock could easily have been solved by employing people to look after the sheep (like in Sweden), which would have cost the government less than hunting the animals down by helicopter. But for some reason Norwegians have this intense fear/hate relationship with the wolf, even though a wolf has never attacked a human being in history, which in turn created a ridiculous media frenzy about people in rural areas living in fear of the "big bad wolf". Eventually public opinion in Norway was in favor of killing the poor defenseless animals.  |
